Course content
1. Introduction 2. Albrecht Dürer - expresive elements in his work 3. Alpine landscape as painting phenomena 4. Expresive tendencies in the architecture 5. The role of graphics in the extension of the expresive tendencies 6. Center and periphery around 1500 7. Expresive sculptors: Stoss, Riemenschneider, Pacher 8. Danube school - the definition, its centres and main personalities 9. The work of the Master IP 10. Anton Pilgram in Vienna and Moravia 11. Anonymous Masters of the Lamentations from Žebrák and Zvíkov 12. Selected paintings with expresive elements in South Bohemia 13. Selected sculptures with expresive elements in South Bohemia 14. Conclusion

Learning outcomes
The course refers about the expresive tendencies in the artistic work in the time around 1500, which is connected with the so called Danube school. But as the current research shows, these tendencies are connected not only with the Bavarian and Austrian town centres. A broader geografical extent of these expresive tendencies will be shown and also their variants in the Southern and Eastern Europe.
The student will gain the knowledge about the expresive elements in the art from the time around 1500 in Central Europe.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the medieval art in Central Europe.
