Learning outcomes
The course will introduce students to the issue of ostalgia, i.e. nostalgia for the aesthetics of the "good old days" when the so-called Eastern Bloc was dominated by the Communist Party. The interpretation will be conducted with the appropriate cultural and historical context, focusing on the concept of ostalgia as a unique reflection of history. The basic characteristics of the phenomenon will be outlined, as well as its connections with other phenomena such as vintage, retro, pop-communism, kitsch and camp. In addition to the manifestations of ostalgia in the Czech environment, ostalgia in Germany (as its "cradle") and Poland will also be highlighted.
The student will have a basic orientation in the issue of ostalgia, its historical background and will be able to use this interpretive tool in the interpretation of various aesthetic-cultural phenomena, phenomena or tendencies, especially in the field of pop culture and art.
Prerequisites
The course assumes a basic knowledge of (post)modern literature, culture and history.
