The course introduces in basic outline the technological procedures and iconographic principles of Tibetan traditional Buddhist art. However, the tendencies of contemporary exiled Tibetan artists and the production of Buddhist art in the West will also be mentioned. Theoretical teaching will always be complemented by excursions to museums and collections of Tibetan traditional art (Třeboň, Vienna, Prague, or others).
Students will gain a basic insight into one segment of traditional Asian art, but will also learn about its variations in the West.
