Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with an overview of art history from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century. Emphasis is placed on the history of Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque art in Italy and its influence on art in the rest of Europe. Art of the 19th century will not be neglected. The prerequisites for the emergence of modern art will be discussed in detail. The development of art in the Czech lands will be discussed in a European context.
- The student will describe the main lines of development in art history from 1500 to around 1900. - The student will identify developmental trends and differences. - The student will characterize the differences between various styles and periods in the history of European art. - Based on acquired cultural and social knowledge, the student will explain the transformations of individual stylistic forms. - The student will apply their knowledge of art history to analyze cultural monuments and European visual culture of the given period.
