Course content
TOPICS: 1. Czech and French structuralism and the term "structure" 2. Aesthetic Function, Norm and Value 3. Aesthetic Attitude and Aesthetic Experience 4. Jakobson´s Poetic Function and Structural Conception of the Language 5. Mukařovský´s Semiotics of Art 6. Subject in Art 7. Intentionality and Unintentionality in Arts 8. F. Vodička and Structuralist Conception of Literary History 9. Jankovič´s Concept of a Work as a Process of Meaning 10. Jan Mukařovský´s Break with Structuralism 4. - 8. Prague linguistic circle. 9. - 11. Structuralism and phenomenology. 12. - 14. Czech post-war structuralism.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of key terms of Czech Structuralist Aesthetics.
Students will gain a comprehensive overview of the structural aesthetics of the Prague school.
Prerequisites
The course presupposes the basic ability of argumentation and basic knowledge of cultural area.

Test

Regular attendance, reading of compulsory texts, final text.
