Course content
1) Biology of crustaceans 2) Most important species for aquaculture 3) Breding of Astacidae, Cambaridae, Parastacidae 4) Semi-intensive and intensive methods of crayfish breeding incl. controlled incubation. 5) Methods of fishing, collection and transport. 6) Breeding of aquarium species. 7) Biology of marine crustaceans. Breeding of shrimp, crabs and lobsters. 8) Disease of crayfish and other crustaceans.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to give basic information on breeding of crayfish and other crustacean as a possibility of aquaculture diversification. Students will be provided by information about different methods of crayfish breeding from extensive to intensive, known also from different countries. Methods of shrimp, crabs and lobsters culture will be presented as well. Special attention will be given to environmental requirement and diseases. Lectures will be focused to the following topics: 1) Biology of crustaceans 2) Most important species for aquaculture 3) Breding of Astacidae, Cambaridae, Parastacidae 4) Semi-intensive and intensive methods of crayfish breeding incl. controlled incubation. 5) Methods of fishing, collection and transport. 6) Breeding of aquarium species. 7) Biology of marine crustaceans. Breeding of shrimp, crabs and lobsters. 8) Disease of crayfish and other crustaceans.
Graduates will gain knowledge about culture of crayfish and other crustaceans, practical abilities for realisation of rescue transfers and will be able to provide consulting in this field.
Prerequisites
Recommended prerequisites are basic knowledge about biology of freshwater animals and passing exams in Protection and culture of crustaceans and molluscs, Zoology, and Hydrobiology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Direct participation in the introductory seminar, personal consultations and knowledge verification - min. 70%.
