Learning outcomes
The main goal of lecture and practical exercises is to provide selected topics of general and inorganic chemistry. In the section of general chemistry students should achieve background in the following topics: basic terms (mass and its forms, elementary particles, substance, energy), principal chemistry laws, calculations of molar concentration - molarity, atom composition, radioactivity, atomic orbitals, chemical bond, periodic law and groups of chemical elements, chemical formula, chemical reactions. In inorganic chemistry part graduates will achieve knowledge about the occurrence, importance and chemical properties of significant members of periodic system of elements. Practical exercises in lab students will get basic skills in standard lab techniques.
Graduates wil learn basic topics in generak and inoranic chemistry as a necessary prerequisite to attend following-up chemistry - based courses in Chemistry 2, Hydrochemistry and Biochemistry.
Prerequisites
Minimal requirement is chemistry background at a secondary school level and elementary laboratory practice.
Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam, Test, Development of laboratory protocols
Conditions for obtaining credit: 80% attendance of training lessons, 100 % attendance of laboratory practises + protocols. Students have to pass 3 credit tests (obtaining more than 50 % points in all tests). Conditions for examination: To get the oral examination, students have to pass the writing test at least at 50 %.
