Course content
|
The topics of the lectures will be: 1. Open waters and their basic characteristics 2. Fish communities in open waters 3. Morphological status of streams, its protection and improvement. 4. Revitalization of watercourses in the open landscape. Objectives, conditions and constraints, design, implementation, follow-up operation. Linking the care of morphological status of watercourses and flood protection. 5. Environmental friendly flood adjustment of watercourses in built-up areas. 6. Self-renaturation of watercourses and their eco-friendly management. 7. Evolutionary importance of fish migrations and their definitions 8. Reasons of fish migrations 9. Methods used in the fish migration research 10. Fishways and their monitoring 11. Principles of management in fishing grounds 12.Food-web manipulation by fish stock management 13. Water Framework Directive (2000/60 / EC) and its impact on fishery management in open waters 14. Protection of fish andlampreys in Europe and in the Czech Republic The exercises will be based on topics of lectures and their content will illustrate to students the selected implementation of the problem in practice, an excursion will be carried out to visit selected fishways and revitalization projects in the Czech Republic. In the course of the exercise there will be practical demonstrations of equipment for monitoring fish migration, fish marking, PC visualization of fish transitions. Attention will also be paid to the identification of fish species occurring in the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with basic principles of fishery and water management in open waters, especially at supporting the diversity of fish communities and improving their living conditions. Attention will be focused on the description of factors negatively affected fish stocks in open waters and the possibilities of their elimination. A significant part of the subject will be focused on revitalization measures, support of fish migration in non-natural riverberds and fishery management aimed at supporting biodiversity and improving water quality in reservoirs.
The graduate will be prepared for professional work in subjects responsible for fishery management of open waters, in public administration, environmental and water management institutions.

Prerequisites

Orientation in the problems of the principles of fishery management in open waters, water management and ecology of the aquatic environment.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Test
Participation in excursions, consultations, successful writing of a credit test and identification of species of fish living in the Czech Republic
