Course content
The course consists of the following topics: 1. Definition of the concepts, the curent situation of fishery in the Czech Republic and in the world, specification of basic abiotic and biotic factors important for the life of fish and aquatic organisms, development of fishing, trophication of water. 2. Fundamentals of fish anatomy and physiology, fish systemics living in the Czech Republic 3. Distribution and characterization of ponds, history of fish farming in the Czech Republic, specification of individual technological elements in ponds. 4. Breeding of common carp in ponds (reproduction, breeding, feeding, harvesting, transport, processing) 5. Breeding of complementary fish species in ponds (reproduction, rearing, feeding, harvesting, transport, processing) 6. Management and meliorations on ponds, stock creating and biomanipulation 7. Environmental management of ponds, influence of fish farming on water quality and biodiversity 8. Special breeding facilities, salmon breeding (breeding, rearing, feeding, harvesting, processing), influence of special breeding facilities on water quality and biodiversity 9. Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Description of basic technological elements, using, impact on water quality and biodiversity. 10. Distribution and characterization of running and lentic open waters, ichthyological classification of watercourses and reservoirs, 11. Fisheries management of no-salmonid fishing grounds. 12. Fishing management of salmonid fishing grounds, drink water reservoirs and streams in the protected areas. 13. Anthropogenic effects on fish population, the influence of free water management on water quality and surrounding ecosystems 14. Fisheries Research, curent and future Trends in Fisheries, Fisheries vs. protection of the nature Within the practical training, the topics of theoretical lectures will be supplemented by practical demonstration of fish species, demonstration of fish marking and fish catching methods, demonstration of artificial spawning, instructional films, stocks and feeding rate calculations, excursions to fishing facilities etc.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with basic information about biology, ecology and fish farming in the Czech Republic, open waters management in the Czech Republic and the impact of fishery activities on water quality and biodiversity of surrounding ecosystems. On the margins, the situation about fisheries in Europe and the world will be mentioned.
Students gains basic knowledge about the occurrence and breeding of fish in the Czech Republic. In the main points understands positive and negative aspects of the fishery management in the context of their branch of study. Students will be able to develop objective judgment in situations where the interests of fishing disagree with interest of nature conservation.

Basic knowledge of biology and ecology

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test

75% presence at the practical training, test of cognition of fish species living in the Czech Republic and credit test for credit obtain. Oral exam.
