Course content
|
The part dealing with plant ecophysiology is focused on plant adaptations to the main environmental factors, especially to marginal values of water availability and radiation, extreme chemical properties of soils and climate seasonality. The practical laboratory training acquaints the students with the approach to comparative ecophysiological assessment of plants of different genotyes subjected to different levels of selected environmental factors. The students then present and discuss their results on a follow-up seminar. The part dealing with plant ecology encompasses the characteristic of abiotic conditions typical for main terrestrial biomes on the Earth and the plant adaptations to them. Attention is paid to the following biomes: (1) subarctic, arctic and high-mountains, (2) waters and wetlands, (3) the Mediterranean, (4) semi-desetrs and deserts, (5) steppe and savanna, (6) tropical forests. The lectures are followed by a seminar in which students present and discuss adaptations of selected plant species to their natural habitats.

Learning outcomes
|
To acquaint students with main types of structural (anatomical, morphologic) anf functional (biochemical, physiological) adaptations to unfavourable environmental conditions and to complexes of determining conditions in main biomes on the Earth
The students will acquire a basic overview of mechanisms of plant adaptation to environmenat conditions as related to their structure and of the typical adaptations to the environment of the main biomes on the Earth

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of plant anatomy, ecology and genetics corresponding to the accomplished Bc. study programme in Biology or Agriculture
