Course content
Within quantitative methods, lessons will be focused on analytical, prognostic methods, processes and interpretations in quantitative research. Lectures and seminars will include selected statistical tests, and their use. The test will be chosen flexibly to take into account the topics of individual PhD theses. Statistical tests will be differentiated in accordance with the variables and the character or "quality" of data (in the sense of representativeness, i.e. the possibility of generalization). Qualitative research strategy will be focused on selected possibilities of qualitative interpretation; the lessons will include data collection vs. interpretation (techniques and models and their use for nursing knowledge). Furthermore, the possibilities of qualitative data processing will be presented, which is associated with the development of the design of a qualitative study (e.g. the rules for the development of the grounded theory, auto-ethnography, etc.). There will be a complementing discussion on the possibilities of the combined strategy (QUAN-QUAL models or vice versa), triangulation and further options of interpretation taking into account the multidisciplinary concept of nursing.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Activating (simulations, games, drama), Work with multi-media resources (texts, internet, IT technologies)
Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on research methods and techniques use dat social work - particularly on quantitative, qualitative and combined research strategies focused on the ways of data processing and interpretation. Advanced analytic skills associated with the processing of data from qualitative, quantitative and combined studies. Students will be able to interpret the data using institutional, regional or national strategies including prognostic procedures.

Prerequisites

UOP/OPRSO

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test

A seminar thesis will be developed focusing on the methodology of the student`s PhD thesis. The methodology will be presented at seminars. The seminar thesis will be used as a basis for the discussion at the examination. The discussion will be focused on the methodology of science, possibilities of exploring the topic selected for the PhD thesis, ways of data processing and interpretation.
