Course content

BLOCK I introduction to the issue of habitat protection 1) Introduction of terminology and definition of habitat level, source data of types of natural habitats? CORINE / Palaearctic habitats classification and connection to EUNIS, map of potential natural vegetation in Europe and the Czech Republic, Habitats Directive, types of natural habitats (habitats) of EU countries 2) Implementation of the Directive into national legislation, methodology of habitat mapping, the process of declaring protected areas of the Natura 2000 system BLOCK II classification of habitats, distribution, biotope complexes 3) Formation group of aquatic and wetland habitats 4) Formation group of peatland habitats 5) Formation group of alpine grade habitats 6) Formation group of rocks and rubble 7) Formation group of grassland habitats and shrubs (1st dry grasslands) 8) Formation group of grassland habitats and shrubs (2nd meadows) 9) Forest habitats formation group 1 10) Forest habitats formation group 2 11) Biotope complexes and their distribution in the Czech Republic

Learning outcomes
|
The main goal is to introduce the problematics of classification of habitats according to the European directive for the protection of Natura 2000 habitats, their assessment of the state in terms of protection, monitoring and practical management. The field trip will focus on mapping and assessment of habitats.
Students are able to apply an active work approach and are able to independent scientific activities in the field. They are able to use a large amount of relevant data (professional literature, own practical experience in the field, the experience of experts), which are able to analyze, critically evaluate and draw appropriate conclusions. Graduates are able to apply these skills in a creative way within their research activities. Students are well prepared for further independent education and maintaining professional growth in the field. Graduates have a thoroughly mastered ability of analytical and synthetic thinking. The student will gain an orientation in the system of habitats / habitats, respectively. types of natural habitats according to the Catalog of Habitats of the Czech Republic. He will gain awareness of the system of qualitative and quantitative parameters that characterize the particular mapped polygons.

Prerequisites
|
Students are able to work independently in the field, but they have also mastered the principles of teamwork. They are equipped with the ability to formulate and present their own opinions and communicate them in their native language as well as in a world language. They can easily communicate information, ideas, identify problems and suggest possible solutions. They are able to critically evaluate their approach to the problem; they are able to defend their professional opinion using arguments gained through study and practical experience in the field. The course has no prerequisites. Prerequisite for graduation is the ability to work independently in the field.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Essay, Student performance assessment
Extent of knowledge corresponding to SZZ at ZF JU. Students of the combined form of study have the same obligations within the study as students of the full-time form. Participation in the excursion is mandatory. The student demonstrates the mastery of the methodology of mapping revisions of a selected area and defends it before the colloquium.
