Course content
Professional practice focuses on health support and disease prevention, on training and mastering nursing activities and activities in midwifery, and on diagnostic and therapeutic activities in outpatient and inpatient medical facilities. Students will be acquainted with the structure of services in primary and secondary (outpatient) care and with the organization of care services for women and children. They will learn to evaluate the environment (material and social) in which people live and the risks to their health. They will be acquainted with diseases that require preventive measures, and with methods of individual and group health education. They will learn basic skills in midwifery.

Learning outcomes
The course is practical. Teaching units take place in medical facilities. The course enables students to apply the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired through the study of theoretical and theoretical-practical courses in university classrooms and laboratories in the conditions of clinical medical workplaces. It provides a space for improving skills, abilities and habits, communication skills, and teaches students independence, responsibility and teamwork. Professional practice focuses on health support, disease prevention and the provision of midwifery care in outpatient and inpatient facilities and community care. Students will be acquainted with the structure of care in midwifery and its forms in outpatient, one-day, inpatient and home health services, and also with the organization of health services caring for women and children. They will learn basic skills in midwifery. Professional practice focuses on primary and outpatient care in midwifery, care in maternity wards and during puerperium, care for pregnant women and women with high-risk pregnancies, care for newborns in neonatal units, nursing care in gynaecology departments, including operating theatres. Teaching takes place under the guidance of an academic worker of the university or a professional practice supervisor of - a mentor of professional practice. An overview of mandatory procedures (skills) in midwifery is set and these services performed in professional practice are recorded in the Logbook: Log of services and other professional activities in midwifery.
Acquired competencies: Student: - is oriented in the field of primary, secondary and tertiary care for women and newborns - demonstrates the acquisition of activities related to meeting the basic needs of the client / patient - demonstrates the acquisition of nursing diagnostic and therapeutic activities - demonstrates the acquisition of skills in midwifery

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Student portfolio analysis, Seminar work, Self-reflection

The student keeps a logbook, performs self-reflection of his/her activities and achieved goals. Credit is granted for 100% participation in practice (confirmed), evaluation of the professional workplace and written reflection of the student, and a case study including a nursing plan according to the specified nursing model.
