The aim of the study is to deepen doctoral student´s knowledge of biology and systematics of Fish-like vertebrates. The issue of the course will address the following topics: 1) Fundaments of morphology and anatomy of fish-like vertebrates (Agnatha, Chondrichthyes, Osteichyes) 2) Fundments of physioogy and adaptations to different environments 3) Evolution and systematice of fish-like vertebrates 4) Fish distribution, zoogeography 5) Taxa important for the aquaculture and their biology 6) Reproduction of fish 7) Domestication and stocking of alien species 8) Ornamental fish, aquarium keeping

The aim of this course is to improve the knowledge of biology and systematics of fish-like vertebrates in PhD students of fisheries.
The student will obtain overview about the biology of dominant European fish species and general information about economically important species worldwide. Attention will payed to ichthyofauna of particular countries of foreign students. After passing the course the students will be able to evaluate the suitability of particular fish species for aquaculture with respect to their demands. The knowledge of ichthyofauna will enable the evaluation of fish communities in open waters with respect to their sustainable management and conservation of biodiversity.
