The aim of the study is to make students familiar with reproductions of some of bony and cartilaginous freshwater fish with an emphasis on reproductive physiology, endocrinology, sexuality, gametogenesis, genome manipulation and reproduction of fish in breeding practice. The main topics will be: 1) Spermatogenesis and oogenesis, meiosis and mitosis, induction of maturation, ovulation and spermiation. 2) Controlled spermiation including ovulation and endocrine regulation of the environment. 3) Sexuality in fish (hermaphroditism, unisexuality and bisexuality), sex ratio, changes of sex in natural and breeding conditions and hybridization. 4) Reproduction of fish in breeding practice, the influence of rearing environment, inbred depression, hormones, pheromones and reproductive behavior in fish. 5) Methods of controlled reproduction in freshwater fish species with exogenous hormone treatment and environmental manipulation. 6) Fish gametes, their physiology and preservation of short and long term gametes, including freezing of embryos and stem cells. 7) Activation, fertilization of gametes and incubation of eggs. 8) Genome manipulation - principles of uniparent inheritance and cloning of parental genomes and polyploid and level of gametes manipulation during sowing, activation, fertilization.
After completing the course, students will master the theory and practical reproduction of fish.
