Theoretical lectures will mainly focus on information about the fate of new xenobiotics in the aquatic environment. Where the lectures will focus mainly on pharmaceuticals, psychoactive substances, musk substances, micro plastics, UV filters and modern pesticides that occur in the aquatic environment at trace or low concentrations. Further, the effects of these substances in environmental concentrations and in mixtures on aquatic organisms and ecosystems will be described in detail, and the possibilities of their biomonitoring will be discussed. The next part of the lectures will focus on physicochemical parameters of water quality in aquaculture. The last part of the course will focus on poisoning aquatic organisms. The practical part of the subject is divided into three blocks of laboratory exercises to gain experience in the following areas: 1) toxicity test on aquatic organisms, during which students perform to toxicity tests on fish, crayfish, daphnia, algae and cell cultures; 2) analyses of biochemical markers of toxicity on aquatic organisms after exposure of xenobiotics, where the students will try the various methods of biochemical analyses in the laboratory; 3) poisoning of aquatic organisms and their diagnosis.

Toxicology is focused on aquatic organisms deepens knowledge gained within previous lower grade curricula (BSc. and MSc.) on our Faculty and develops new areas from the perspective of modern trends in toxicology.
The main objective of this class is to get an overview and deeper expert knowledge and competences in the field of toxicological assessment of hazardous properties of pollutants on aquatic organisms (fish, crayfish and amphibians). At the end of the course, students should be able to understand the concept of aquatic toxicology and the assessment of pollutants. Students will be able to explain the effects of pollutants on aquatic organisms. Students can discuss and interpret the general principles of aquatic toxicology and will manage the evaluation and use of methodologies in toxicology, which to predict the effects of toxic substances. Students will be able to justify the application of aquatic toxicology and the application of knowledge in practice.
