The subject is focused to the following main fields: 1) Fish cytogenetics 2) Evolutionary polyploidy in fish 3) Spontaneous and induced polyploidy in fish 4) Quantitative genetics of fish 5) Hybridization programmes in fish culture 6) Selection programmes in fish culture 7) Analysis of quantitative data 8) Specificity of breeding work in pond aquaculture and analysis of quantitative data 9) Conservation of biodiversity and genetic resources In its practical part, the subject is divided into minicourses in order to provide experience in the following fields: 1) cytometry focused to image cytometry methods (image analysis) and flow cytometry methods, where the students try analysis of both the macroscopic and microscopic image, cell viability, determination of ploidy level, of relative DNA content and of genome size upon model teleost and chondrostean fish with genome size from ca. 1 to 14 pg DNA/nucleus; 2) quantitative genetics focused on data analysis methods, with determination of the proportion of genetic variance on phenotypic variance of a trait in population, and a possibility to increase fish performance in the traits given (i.e. traits increasing the product added value) by means of different breeding methods; and 3) conservation and maintenance of gene pool of fish species of commercial-, research- or other biological importance.

Výstupy z učení
|
To deepen knowledge on genetics gained within previous lower grade curricula (BSc. and MSc.) and to develop specific fields, which are important from the point of view of topical research trends.
Getting oriented in topical trends and methods of genetic research, namely causes of polyploidy and methods of their cytometric analyses, as well as quantitative genetics and possibiities to enhance fish performance using various breeding methods, and biodiversity conservation.
