This course deals with the history of social thinking in the broader context of Euro-Atlantic culture. It serves as an essential introduction to civil society and social policy studies. It spans the period from the beginnings of Euro-Atlantic culture to the present day. It deals with the study of manifestations or phenomena of social thinking, which reflect social, legal, political, economic and religious conditions which often strive to establish and achieve a social ideal. Great emphasis will be placed on the roots and development of social thought from the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries and its influence on the development of civil society and social thought in modern times. This course will address issues both in a narrower (city, country) and broader context (civilisation circle), as well as in the context of the relationship between the church/churches and the state. It will focus mainly on essential personalities and events that significantly influenced our civilisation or became a vital impulse for the development of social policy, social thinking and civil society.
