|
The Bachelor's degree program History of Art is oriented towards the study of fine arts and architecture. Its aim is to prepare university educated specialists capable of critical thinking, theoretical insight and practical application. The study is designed as a three-year course and takes place only in full-time form. In addition to a common foundation, the student will go through courses that give him a deeper insight into the background, content, form and function of works of art and architecture from antiquity to the end of the 20th century. They will also become acquainted with the historiography of the field of art history and current methodological approaches in the analysis and interpretation of a work of art. The student will learn to use basic tools of art history, allowing deeper understanding of a work of art, such as Christian and profane iconography, and will go through courses that prepare him for the practice of art historian in various cultural institutions. The study program is designed to provide students with quality education in the field of art history and at the same time to show potential future specialization and also to open space to study other historical or humanities offered at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia or other universities. All this will provide graduates with high-quality equipment to facilitate their employment in today's labor market.

The Bachelor's degree program in History of Art is followed by a follow-up Master's degree program in History of Art and Visual Studies. Graduates of the History of Art degree program can also continue in Master's degree in follow-up humanitarian programs at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia, or at other universities providing related study programs (eg aesthetics, visual studies, art history, cultural studies, media studies).

Graduate profile
|
Graduates of the History of Art study program will be able to practically apply the acquired knowledge and skills in cultural institutions (museums, galleries, monument care, publishing houses, cultural agencies, etc.), in the media or media, eventually. in state administration and self-government as well as in art trade. Defined according to the Catalog of Works, it is for example a curator of collections and mobiliary funds, curator of thematic exhibitions or lecturer, conservationist, monument manager or documentary, organizational worker, employee of public relations, editor - journalist or secretary of artistic operations. Specifically, they are the National Gallery in Prague, Prague City Hall. City of Prague, monument care authorities, Czech Radio and art shops. In addition to the necessary and basic practical application of theoretical knowledge, the graduates of the History of Arts Bachelor's degree program will be prepared for further education in master's and then doctoral programs within the humanities, especially in the fields of art history, visual studies, aesthetics and cultural history. Bachelor graduates often continue their master studies at both the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia and the philosophical faculties of Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno and Palacký University in Olomouc, where they continue to study art history. Some graduates continue their studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where they study Theory and History of Modern and Contemporary Art, or at the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where they study Curatorial Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Design.

The degree programs of the FF have always defined the general employment of graduates of the degree program and the typical job positions that the graduate can hold. Thanks to interdisciplinary studies, the Art History program prepares university-educated professionals able to practically apply knowledge and skills not only in museums, galleries, monument care and the art trade, but also in a wide range of cultural institutions such as publishers, media, media and state institutions. administrations in which they can hold the positions of experts in the arts and culture. The best graduates should be able to continue their doctoral studies, thus deepening the vertical permeability of studies from bachelor to doctoral degree at FF JU and other faculties in the Czech Republic.
