Course objectives:
Get acquainted with immune mechanisms of the host operating against selected groups of parasites including protozoa, helminths and ectoparasites. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between particular immune mechanisms of the host, parasite escape mechanisms and immunopathology of parasite infections. Special aim is devoted to modern trends in the development of vaccines.
Requirements on student
Students should understand the significance of the host immunity against parasites as a constituent of the whole parasitology. They should understand the mechanisms of host defense against important parasites including escape of parasites from immune surveillance. Passing the exam is conditioned by answering at least 70% of the questions asked.
Content

Overview of immune mechanisms; Experimental immunoparasitology; Malaria; Leishmaniasis; African trypanosomes; Schistosomes; Gastrointestinal nematodes; Nematodes that invade tissues; Immunity to ectoparasites; Vaccines.
