| Key learning outcomes | The Master's degree in History of Art and Visual Studies is oriented towards the study of various types of visual media and culture with an emphasis on their history and theory. It is intended especially for graduates of the bachelor's degree in the history of art and aesthetics, but is also open to those interested in other fields of history and humanities. The course focuses on several thematic areas: it teaches students to understand the different functions of visual media in a social, political and religious context where they function as tools of representation, religious polemics and ideological conflict on a wide qualitative scale between high, popular and low, regional and global; in the time span from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Attention is also paid to deepening the philosophical and methodological horizon of the audience, as well as insight into a wider spectrum of visual media (photography, theater), eventually the processing of images and monuments by digital methods. Attention is also paid to the theory of vision, aesthetics of nature and the environment. Interdisciplinarity based on art-historical, aesthetic and cultural approaches, balance between theoretical and historically built disciplines, gives this study program extraordinary and originality and uniqueness in the offer of universities in the Czech Republic. The aim of the program is to educate university-educated professionals with a broad perspective who are capable of critical thinking, theoretical reasoning and practical application. | ||||
